saturday vignette: cast concrete “birds”

These cast concrete shade shelters at located on the west shore of Cherry Creek State Park. They look like raptors to me – wings up just seconds before snatching some unsuspecting animal from the ground. I like the abstract form of the shelters; evocative of birds of prey common to Colorado without being literal representations. The park, located southeast of downtown Denver in Aurora, Colorado, is a popular recreation spot offering boating, fishing, nature study, horseback riding, picnicking and a variety of other activities.

The ride there and back along the very popular Cherry Creek Trail from Confluence Park in downtown Denver is just over 30 miles.
